Please excuse me if some of this week’s reviews are short. I was so mentally exhausted after listening to these 10+ minute songs that I could only write a few curt sentences about most of them.

The AllMusic review of this song has some fascinating tidbits, like how producer George Clinton told guitarist Eddie Hazel to play “like your momma just died.” The several-minute guitar solo is just as mournful and heartbreaking as you’d hope for with those instructions.

The opening voiceovers are freakazoid rambles but add to the song’s spacey charm. While it’is not exactly my favorite style, I can see why “Maggot Brain” is considered an all-time funk-metal classic.
